Composting Toilets: A Choice Worth Making
69TAKE A LOOK AT THIS
When you first think about composting toilets, you may think of the outhouses of yesteryear, and think, "That's not for me"! But in todays world the composting toilet can be "stylish", and fit in with a modern bathroom, and a decor that is pleasing to look at and comfortable to use.
Composting toilets have many advantages over the water flush toilets we are all too familiar with. For starters... they never get stopped up!
Did you ever know a kid who simply loved to throw toys or other objects into the toilet and flush? I think watching it go down is the fun part for toddlers. But with a composting toilet, anything tossed in can be retrieved without a plumber, a drain snake, or a plunger! (I would advise rubber gloves and a wire coat hanger in some situations)!
In most cities and towns, waste water goes to a facitily that cleans it up for reuse. In a nutshell, the paper, poo, and other stuff is taken out, chemicals to kill grems are added, and it's used again.
But I have a question... why do we do that? YUCKO!
How many animals in nature pee and poop in their drinking water? I'm just wondering. And the ones who do... how big are their brains?
A composting toilet that is properly installed and maintained, has no unpleasant smell. Plus the compost produced can be used like any other organic composted material.
Joseph Jenkins who wrote The Humanure Handbook freely shares his knowledge about subjects such as Human Nutrient Cycle, Thermophilic Microorganisms, and Fecophobia and the Pathogen Issue at http://humanurehandbook.com/ Not only is it informative, it is also written with wit and humor. An enjoyable education about the benefits of composting toilets.
